Outbreak Protocol.

Containment failed. The clock didn't stop.

Needs a keyboard, so it's best played on a computer.

A retro-style arcade first-person shooter. Get the cure out, then fight through 1,000 levels to Ground Zero.

Every level gives you a job, shown in the top left of the screen. Fight off rushers, spitters and brutes, grab med kits because your health doesn't come back on its own, and earn up to three stars per level by finishing it, completing the bonus job and beating the par time. Stars raise your rank, starting from Recruit.

Features.

  • The first 15 levels tell the story across three chapters, The Annex, Quarantine and Outskirts, and levels 1, 6 and 15 are hand-built missions.
  • After the story, 40 zones such as St. Mercy Hospital, Cryo Vaults and The Hive lead to Ground Zero, and every player gets the same level layouts.
  • Each level's job is one of four kinds: turn on generators, download data from terminals, clear out every infected, or start a rescue beacon and survive the waves.
  • From level 18, some levels carry a twist shown on the level map: Swarm, Spitter nest, Brute den or Low supplies.
  • There are 15 ranks, from Recruit and Responder up to Hero and Legend, and Legend needs all 3,000 stars.
  • Options cover mouse speed, invert mouse, overall, music and effects volume, brightness, Low, Medium or High graphics, and less camera motion.

Tips for Outbreak Protocol.

  • A Brute charges from 5 to 15 metres away and stops turning just before it sets off. Stand with a wall behind you and sidestep late: if it hits the wall, it is stunned and takes 50% more damage.
  • Shoot a Rusher while its arms are up. One pistol hit or a shotgun blast during that wind-up staggers it and cancels the swipe.
  • Spitters back off when you get within 5 metres, but only once every 4 seconds. Close in right after one retreats.
  • Save ARC-7 cells for groups. Each shot jumps to up to three more infected within 7.5 metres, each jump doing 75% of the hit before it.
  • The hidden supply cache is usually in the farthest side room. Opening it gives ammo for every gun you carry, 40 armour and 25 health.
  • Stars stay earned between runs, so you can do the bonus job on one run and beat the par time on another.

Outbreak Protocol FAQ.

Can I play Outbreak Protocol on a phone or tablet?

No. The game has no touch controls. You move with the keyboard and aim and shoot with the mouse, so you need a computer with both.

Does Outbreak Protocol save my progress?

Yes, automatically. Unlocked levels, stars, best scores and options are kept in your browser's local storage on that device. If your browser blocks storage, the main menu warns that progress lasts this session only.

What happens after level 15?

The story ends with an ending that changes depending on the bonus jobs you did in levels 1, 6 and 15. Keep going takes you into 985 more levels across 40 zones.

How do I unlock new weapons?

You start with the P-11 Service Pistol. Finishing level 1 unlocks the Breacher Shotgun, level 3 the Hornet SMG and level 6 the ARC-7 Projector.

Outbreak Protocol is free to play online, with no download or sign-up. Your progress saves in this browser automatically. Updated .
