Loamline.

Race a mountain bike down five mountains against the clock.

A 3D downhill mountain-bike time trial. Drop out of the start hut, carry speed through banked berms, pump the rollers, pop off the lips of the jumps and pick the smooth line through rock gardens and wet roots.

Every track has split timers that show how you compare with your best run, and your personal best rides beside you as a ghost. Finish a track to unlock the next mountain, and earn medals to unlock new rider kits.

Features.

  • Five mountains, each with one long timed course of 1.35 to 1.64 km, about two to three minutes a run: Fernwood Flow (green, coastal pine forest), Goldleaf Gully (blue, golden aspens), Red Mesa Rush (black, desert slickrock), Shalecrest (black, alpine switchbacks and scree) and Mossfall (double black, a wet rainforest in the rain).
  • The courses are built like real downhill tracks: berms, off-camber turns, tabletops, doubles, rock-ledge drops, step-ups, rollers, braking bumps, rock gardens and slippery roots.
  • 12 kinds of ground, from loam and hardpack to loose gravel, slickrock, mud, wet roots, sand and scree, each with its own grip, sound and dust.
  • The bike's suspension, the tyres' grip and the rider's body are all simulated, so berms hold you, mud slows you, loose gravel slides and a stuffed landing sends you over the bars.
  • Bronze, silver, gold and line master medals on every track, and six rider kits to unlock with medal points: Ember, Glacier, Moss, Volt, Dusk and Sandstone.
  • Three cameras: chase, far chase and a helmet cam.

Tips for Loamline.

  • Brake before a turn, not in it. The bike leans less under braking, and less again on loose, wet or off-camber ground, so braking mid-turn makes it drift wide.
  • Berms are banked for the speed you should carry into them. Stay off the brakes and let the bank hold you round.
  • Holding pedal over a lip won't nose-dive you: in the air the bike only tilts when you press W or S.
  • Rock gardens always have a smoother line. Look for it before you get there instead of braking in the rocks.
  • Watch the split gates: they show how far ahead of or behind your best run you are, so you can see exactly where you lose time.
  • Medal points unlock the kits: bronze is worth 1, silver 2, gold 3 and line master 4. Glacier needs 2 points, and Sandstone, the last kit, needs 14.
